Jasper and South Pittsburg

Jasper is a town in Marion County, Tennessee, United States. It is the county seat of Marion County. The town was formed in 1820 from lands acquired from Betsy Pack (1770–1851), daughter of Cherokee Chief John Lowery. Jasper is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jasper is named for William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero from South CarolinaSouth Pittsburg is a city in Marion CountyTennessee, United States. It is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is situated in the southwestern Sequatchie Valley between the Cumberland Plateau on the west and the Tennessee River (Guntersville Lake) on the east. Two steep ridges— Whitacre Point on the north and Lodge Point on the south— extend outward from the Plateau to "wall in" the main portion of the city on the north, west, and south.
